So today was my appt(s) for both my midwife and the dating ultrasound. Started with the ultrasound. Let's just say I was VERY unhappy with the tech. Remember the I dont want to know if you arent sure? She didnt even give me a chance to say that!
Tech: Are you going to find out the gender? (implied conversationally EVENTUALLY FIND OUT)
Me: Yes.
Tech: Well then lets see what we can find well its looks like it might be a {fill in gender guess]
No space. No pause. I was taking a breath before saying, but we dont want to know today unless you are really sure. But before I could state that, she blurted her guess. Its like she looked, made a split decision, said it immediately with NO FILTER or hesitation. I was furious. She spent a few more minutes looking said she sticks with her guess but said that it wasnt obvious legs were blocking the view, never checked the blood flow, and then she said all done and turned off the machine. It was maybe 10 minutes long including getting into the room and clothes situated. I am still very upset about it. From what I saw I agree with her guess but she was right, very not obvious. My husband asks to not be told the results given the unsure nature so I wont post it here.
My anatomy scan is in about 4 weeks, we should have better answers (and a better tech!) then. From what little I talked with the tech she didnt seem to know much about baby development and ultrasounds. I have never had that tech before.
Everything else was fine. My placenta is anterior (huh?) and with much discussion we decided to keep my original due date with what was written down as Nov 22. The scan showed the date to be accurate within 3 days. Given the general age of the baby, this can just be the natural inaccuracy that comes with later u/s dating. Best time to date for best accuracy is 5-6 weeks.
Off to go mentally rant some more. I am still pretty pissed at the tech.
